Walter Reed ( aka Killah Priest) is from Brooklyn , NY the home of the East Coast's fines MC's like Biggie, Busta, Jay-Z, Foxy brown and of course Priest himself. While creating a buzz in his neighborhood and in the 5 boroughs he hooked up with the RZA.
At the time he met RZA, Mr Bobby Digital had a group called the Gravediggaz . He gave priest the opportunity to shine and let him spit verses on the new Gravediggaz album in 1994. After '94 RZA formed the almighty powerful Wu Tang Clan in Staten Island and Killah priest rolled with them. Priest was influenced by fellow Brooklynite GZA (RZA , ODB, and Flavor Flav's cousin). So he felt right at home in this newly formed crew. Priest would go on to record verses on ODB's album Return To The 36 Chambers and on his hometown MC GZA's Liquid Swords. This gave him the opportunity to shine on these masterpieces and give him exposure to the rest of the world for his coming . Well the rest is history for this born GOD.
Killah Priest Throwback Interview ( from my on air show on WUML)
TB: Who influenced you to start rapping?
KP: All the great MC's from around my way like GZA, Slick Rick, Rakim Big Daddy Kane, KRS One..
TB: What was the struggle like coming up in the rap game?
KP: The only struggling i seen was battling.
I was fortunate enough to be part of the Wu Tang. So success didn't come to me like people who shop for a deal. I got to go on tour with the Gravediggaz, and the Wu . Jumping in the game was different (coughin on that indo )
TB: Who introduced you to the Wu Tang Clan?
KP: Umm!! it was the GZA. Him and the RZA use to come around my way , and they would always battle other MC's on the block. I would hang back and watch , learn skills and gain knowledge. Then i would go out and get in my own zone.
TB: Have you ever collaborated with Jodeci (MCA label mates)?
KP: Naw, i met them a couple of times. It was definitely all love
*side note* "Ghostface pretty much did a freestyle on the Freek N U Remix"- Mr Dalvin
TB: What was it like recording your first album?
KP: It was really so much fun. When recording i was like "Wow, this pulled a lot of real shit out of me"
TB: Now that you're on your own and off a major label. Do you have more creative control?
KP: Maan its crazy. It's taking me back to the Heavy Mental days, but on another level.
TB: I heard you have Nas on your album
KP: Yeah, Nas is on there. Nas came through and blessed the album. When he heard the joint , he was like "I need to get on this"
TB: What was the fall out with MCA records?
KP: MCA wasn't on the Priest level. They wanted what was popping at the time. People around me tried to help me get more of a commercial vibe. Tracks i wanted on the album got taken off. It was a mess, so i had to slide off that label . Just Blaze was on that album, i really liked that the most.
(interview ends abruptly as Hell Razah bumps into Priest and then we talk about some real shit . I'll post it when i find the reel)
Raekwon (F.I.L.A. review)
There is a reason the call Rae the Chef. He's always cooking something hot. Rae's newest album F.I.L.A. is an evolutionary step in his career. Every album he drops , he comes out with something totally new and hella funky.
"Wall To Wall" feat. Busta and French Montana is a fly bragadocious killer track about keeping your bread up so high it hits the ceiling ..like Toyota "Oh What A Feeling"
"Heated Nights"- If your looking for the new "Juicy" of this era, this it right here. Releases exclusively on Revolt TV live. Rae spits venomous fire that's out of this dimension
"1,2 1,2" feat. Snoop Dogg: I can't lie, this is my favie on this album. It features the King Of The West Coast , Snoop Dogg. The beat bangs, the flow is fast. Straight fiiiyaaah, they double dutched this one.
"Soundboy Kill It" : Definitely a hard thumpin Twenty 90's cut. Hip Hop Soul at its finest. The first few bars of the track you think "Hmm, I don't know if this beat fits with his flow". Then he starts spittin a few more bars in and he makes the beat match his flow. Biggie did that too..the beat wouldn't be the greatest , but when he started flippin on the beat, it made it sound soooo hot. That says a lot.
A newcomer Liz Rodrigues makes "Worst Enemy" a new flava in ya ear. Like i said before, Rae evolves and grows each album making F.I.L.A. a great recipe in the Chef's cookbook.
