Trevor's Traveler: Westgate Ledger (Nashua,NH)

I came to Nashua, NH in 2004. The city isn't really my cup of tea but i learned more about this great Gate City. Found all these nooks and hidden gems which is just enough to satisfy my country heart and cravings..
Here are some places you can visit with family and friends
I will start with Mine Falls ( look it up on Google maps for Nashua,NH). Mine Falls is a great park to ride your bike, skateboard ( skateboard park at  Stellos Stadium entrance), walk, jog, snowshoe & cross country ski in the winter etc.. There's even a boat ramp so that you can go bass fishing, kayaking, jetski , etc..

It is home to a ton of wildlife like deer ( which ran alongside me while i was cycling),occasional bear or moose, muskrats, beavers, hawks etc.. It has two waterfalls, one at the entrance(great place to picnic) and one in the middle of the park overlooking a gorgeous pond. There's three entrances to Mine Falls
1. Stellos Stadium
2. Nashua High School South (parking in back of the school)
3. Coliseum Ave.

-------____--------_____-------------

At the Coliseum Ave entrance you can park and go shopping down the street..

Grab a coffee at Starbucks, grocery shop at Hannaford, catch a movie at Chunky's Cinema, grab a burger at Wendy's, shop at LL Bean to get all your hiking gear and wear for Mine Falls..

If there's no games going on at the Coliseum Ave baseball fields you can toss the baseball around, fly a kite, play soccer, go fishing off the Coliseum Ave entrance bridge...
One exit up you can stay at the Crowne Plaza, Hampton Inn, Residence Inn by Marriott etc. Near the hotels there's an airport where you can take flying lessons..These are all the great things you can do here in the Gate City.
If hiking is not your thing you can take the bus to downtown Nashua

NASHUA RAIL TRAIL ( Nashua,NH- Ayer,MA)

Discovering the Nashua rail trail was an interesting story. Living in my village of Westgate i found a road like anomaly while walking around looking for wild raspberries.

My village's property manager Ralph told me that the road in the woods was an old railroad bed that ran through the city of Nashua. The beginning of that road starts on Hammar Rd..

This is where i use the Nashua Trail even though its not on the Rail Trail map. It runs on Hammar Rd ( used to be old farm land.In the woods you'll find stone property walls and barbed wire) . There's a little wooden fence with a gap that leads right into Westgate Village ( Westgate Rd. leads to Main Dunstable Rd. where new trails were built two years ago).
You can also grab snacks and a sub on West Hollis St at Fotene's Market for your hike or bike ride...

The new trails start on Main Dunstable Rd. One way leads to Buckmeadow Rd. which is near Maplewood Pizza & Captain's Corner Store & Gas...

The other part of the trail on Main Dunstable Rd. leads you to the Nashua Rail Trail ( if you have a dog..there's a nice fenced in dog park right off the trail)
