M-Dot : E.M.S. = MC²

Meet the hardest working artist out of Boston . Back in 2009 i  had this cat on air at WUML. Now in 2015 this MC is doing big things.

1. What Does M-Dot (your MC name) mean?

It started as my initials and also is shortening of my full name. Separately it's also an acronym for "money doesn't own thought."  With my decisions in life I try to never let money be my sole purpose (which is the opposite of the American way I guess). Gotta live first and foremost above doing things you don't want to just for an extra buck. Chasing this music thing is perfect example.

2. What city do you represent?
Boston overall. Grew up in Revere (right under the Tobin bridge in Boston) and now currently live in Lynn (the place Slaine references to go get strippers and drugs in "Gone baby Gone", also seen in the "Departed" where they find one of the bodies). Only pointing out as those are feature films many have seen and you can see and hear Lynn in them. I love it here nevertheless (it's known for being rough but I got no complaints) and live on a good street as well as love the community, playing ball over the summer in the parks when I am not touring.

3. Do you think New England artists get passed on by labels because of their demographic?
Sure. But no excuses we can rise above it. Unfortunately thus far however we have never had a platinum artist amazingly. Or even close for that matter (in hip hop). Wild considering that it's a major city with pretty much the most sports titles (especially over last 15 yrs).

4. As a hip hop head. Do you like live instrumentation or diggin in the crates when looking for a beat to spit on?
Both are awesome. I love music first. Dope is dope. I def wanna experiment much more with live instrumentation. Also love rocking with bands.

5. Do you prefer digital or analog when recording?
I use digital but my programs are so old it might as well be analog. Lol meaning all the extra work I do with editing haha.

6. I know your an MC , but would you branch off and do other music or fuse your sound (Examples: Bubba Sparxxx, Pitbull, 3OH3) so you don't limit yourself to just hip hop?
Yea absolutely. Always would love to grow as an artist. Learn new instruments. Expand. Aside from music I think I'd be a good sports agent or lawyer lmao Atleast that's what I've been told. I'm full Italian and an MC so I pride myself on a gift to gab. Best recruiters in sports... Pitino & Calipari. Hahah What blows my mind is "rappers" nowadays are rarely MC's, they came up in a computer era and many seem to not even have spit game. When I came up all the artists I aspired to be....that was rule number one. Which they embodied.

7.  You have a well known fan base in Italy. Would consider spitting in half English and half Italian mixed with some Spanish too?
You know what's funny lot of people think I'm Spanish. Many times people come up to me talking Spanish Hahaa. I don't speak Italian well enough but love to learn more (understand my mother however). When I am in Italy visiting family or touring I pick up a lot of the language again. Soon as I come home tho I lose it over a few weeks.

8. In this digital age anyone can make an album. Do you think if music was a stock it would plummet?
Yea I think it's def a down stock (from a sales point). I'm still gonna make albums tho. Even working on a vinyl now (as that sells better than CDs currently). But real money is releasing a LP, touring, then selling merch.

9. Personally, i chose to play your music on my show because you were a nice MC and had hot underground features like Rapper Big Pooh, Big Shug, Krumb Snatcha ect.. Do you think new artists should be seasoned a little more before putting out music online? And do you think they should listen to criticism when they're told to go back to the lab or hang up the mic ?

For each there own. Meaning if somebody sucks I don't care and they don't have to retire just let's not fake the funk and pretend there good just cuz it's a new fad to like and they have paid for some support by blogs and radios. Far as coming up I think of that all the time. I think cosigns and years of gaining respect were so vital (it's way I tried to do it when I started) but nowadays its sadly grown away from that. These kids should have to earn it. Still though I ain't one to complain. I'll just keep working, stay consistent and try and be here when they fade away. As I have for years....

10.  You have a new single called "Shine" featuring Wu Tang's Method Man . How did you two meet and put together the track?
My man DC Soulplusmind from LA, whom I've known for a very long time, sent me the song with meth on it, asked if I wanted to jump on....My answer was pretty quick. Lol I added Katy gunn on the hook and it was a wrap. He sent to meth for approval, which we waited on for several months (I was mad nervous) then he hit us back saying he 'dug it' and it was a go. I then asked if I could use for my project, and they all said no problem. Boom shukalucka!

11. Any albums for the future?
"Ego and the Enemy" soon. "Shine" & "Smooth" are on it. (Both singles out now). Just signed to "Own Lane Music" (out of Worcester).

12 ***BONUS FUN QUESTION**** Besides being an artist, what other talents do you have?
Got a college scholarship for basketball. Which is cool considering I'm 5'9. Also could dunk (not anymore lmao).

13****BONUS FUN QUESTION*** Do you get your freak on with Jodeci playing in the background?
I hundred percent owe those guys some daps Cuz they def helped me serenade several ladies. Haha
